Since removing himself from the helter smelter of so-called Brisbane in 2018 and setting up on blustery ﬂood plains in the southern parts of Tharawal land, NJR has re-acquainted himself with the redeeming qualities of the pastoral.

Taking note from practitioners of city-to-country subversion, Ray Charles and Marcus Aurelius (to name a few), NJR worked closely with Tyler Millott (Terrifying Lows, Ali Barter) Nick Milnes (Bianca Blackhall, Phil Smith & The Lights) and Harry Pierce (hjpierce, Josephson) to build a ‘Country Metal’ conceit. The resulting songs balance quaint tropes with gothic bluster, the naturalist tendencies of the Tao with the Stoic’s urbane prohibition.

The lead single Outlive is dissonance in the dust, a cosmic rock-opera for the cow-punk and a crowing croon for Mother Earth’s endurance: a rock’n’roll tonic for those seeking to stay sane in the era.
